About
My name is Mark and I am a clergyman in the Church in Wales (Anglican) serving as Area Dean of Penderi and Vicar of the Parish of Swansea, St. Peter (Cockett) in the City of Swansea (Wales, U.K). This is my fourth parish, having previously served as Curate in the Parish of St.Thomas (Swansea), team Vicar at St.Anne’s, Penparcau (Benefice of Aberystwyth) and Vicar of the Parish of Hirwaun, near Aberdare. I am married to Hazel and have four children, Sarah (married to Tom), Ben, Hannah and Ruth. My hobbies include reading and writing, composition and supporting the greatest team in the world, Swansea City Football Club (known as the Swans). My background is evangelical/charismatic but I am currently engaged in an ongoing love affair with the Orthodox Church, and indeed, all things Christian.
You may be wondering about the title. It’s from the Old Testament book of psalms (Psalm 68:30) Why the title for a blog? I am not completely sold on the total depravity line of the Calvinists etc but I am a ‘beast’ until the beauty of Christ enters my heart and soul and begins his work of transformation in me. Until this work is complete I will always be like a beast, peering out from the reeds, a sort of Zaccheus at ground level, wanting to see but hiding the same time. This blog then is me sharing a little of what I can see between the blades as I look at my fragile faith, God’s imperfect Church and the growing Kingdom of God.
